Well, so much for another day of campus shooting someday this week.  It was supposed to warm up a bit, but instead it got colder.  Much colder.  Cold enough that I don’t even much feel like walking up to Franklin St for lunch – I do so anyway to get out of the office, but it’d be nice if I could play with the camera a bit along the way.  Hopefully it’ll start to warm up toward the end of this week and I can start planning different routes at lunch.  I’m going to try and have a huge library of images of everyday campus life – I’ve got plenty of time to build it up, though, so although I’m annoyed at not being able to start on it this week, I’m not heartbroken over it.

In the meantime, I’ve still got plenty to keep me occupied – I’ve got two shoots I need to go through and do post-processing on selected images, and time’s a-running out until I’m supposed to make my next site update for SCG.

New stuff coming soon…

I’ve got a shoot scheduled for tomorrow with Savannah, OMP # 15912, for the SCG site.  She’s a very experienced model, so she should be able to make up for any idiocies I still have, and we’ll hopefully get some awesome images.  It’ll be quite cold out, so we may be limited in how long we can spend outdoors, which will disappoint me, but you’ve got to roll with the punches.

Next weekend, I’m shooting with Mianna Nicole from Model Mayhem, also for SCG.  Another very experienced model – I consider myself fortunate that I can afford to work with models that really know what they’re doing, since I can tell I learn a lot after each shoot.  Given that I’m a somewhat slow learner in artistic type fields like this, it’s little short of miraculous that I’ve gotten as good as I am now, and completely miraculous that I keep getting better.

With luck, this year will see enough of an improvement in my skills that I’m able to start marketing myself as something close to a “professional photographer” rather than a talented hobbyist.

Updates, shoots, and merriment

Well, it’s been longer than I thought since my last post.  I’ve been quite busy at work, which has left me with very little free time at home to do aught save read and sleep.

Today I updates the main SCG site with Kelli’s shoot.  Kelli was a lot of fun to work with, although she seemed a bit shy at first that was probably just nerves of having woken up later than inteded due to mis-setting an alarm clock.  :)

We got some awesome images, and I especially liked some of the shots of her in the doorway to the abandoned building we got.

I did a shoot earlier today with Kelli Vicious, who I mentioned in my last post, and so far I’m quite happy with how the images turned out.  I’ve only dont a quik conversion from NEF to JPG, so the real results will have to wait until I have time to go the import and conversion right in Photoshop.  Kelli is a great model to work with; I had a lot of fun on this shoot.  She’s also really cool about my habit of talking to myself – just to hear my own voice.  We went out to an abandoned buolding of some sort to get a couple outdoor shots – I’m not at all sure what the building used to be – it looks like it was once some sort of roadside antique shop or something, but it’s completely abandoned, and has been for a number of years.  We probably weren’t realy supposed to be there, but I think I’m starting to learn the art of “creative interpretation of trespassing signs” for photography.  Anyway…  pictures when I get them processed.  I also need to pick up some chems to develop the B&W film from the last two shoots…  I’m anxious to see how they turned out.

Site update

Finally got the corrections done from last weekends shoot.  Wonderful model, had a lot of fun working with her.  Go take a lok at the album up on SCG:  http://www.sweet-carolina-girls.com/daisy.php.  I’m getting a hell of a lot better at this, it seems…

Look into my eyes

Look into my eyes

I have another scheduled for tomorow (Saturday) with Kelli Vicious (OMP #397974) that I’m hoping goes as well if not better than this one went – after that, next Wednesday (2/11) and the following Saturday and Sunday (2/21, 2/22).  Busy busy…

First model shoot of the year

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Yesterday I spent about two hours working with Nicole Marie, OMP #395163.  She is a self-described “true Southern Belle, born and raised” and it shows through in the images we got.  She’s also a little bit of tease, and that shows through as well, but with her smile, she’s allowed to be a bit of a tease.  This was the first shoot in which I tried Magnus’ lighting suggestions, and I’m very happy with how the scheme turned out.  I had a few frames where the flashes didn’t fire for one reason or another, and the difference in the image tone between those and where they did fire is amazing.  I’ll be going through those for corrections soon and hopefully will be able to post a few of them.
